When the PS5 bypass stops working mid-match

Controller disconnects or input drops on PS5. Causes and fixes.

4 min read

The PS5 bypass has been stable for 18+ months, but three failure modes still show up. All are fixable.

Symptom 1: Controller disconnects every 5-8 minutes

You’re on pre-v5 firmware. Sony’s DualSense re-handshake interval is ~5 minutes. v5+ firmware handles this transparently. Update via Zen Studio.

Symptom 2: Input drops for ~200ms when you press PS button

Pre-v5.1 firmware had this bug on Series X and PS5. Updating to v5.1.4 fixes it. No config change needed.

Symptom 3: Game sees a wired controller and refuses to pair

Usually a loose cable. The Zen’s Output port is a touch finicky — make sure the USB-A plug is seated fully. If it’s seated, swap to the other front USB-A port on the console. If still failing, test with a different cable.

Symptom 4 (rare): Controller works, but inputs feel laggy

Zen is running an old script that’s tuned for a previous firmware’s haptic protocol. Re-flash your current script through our flasher — the tune will pick up the newer firmware’s timing automatically. Takes a minute.
